Australian soprano Phoebe Humphreys is currently undertaking a Masters of Music (Vocal Performance) on scholarship at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London. Phoebe is currently studying under Marilyn Rees and vocal coach Elizabeth Rowe. In 2011 she completed a Bachelor of Music and Arts at the University of NSW, Australia. Phoebe has been a classical singer for 13 years. Phoebe’s love for opera and classical singing began when she was a child chorister for Opera Australia. Since this time Phoebe has had the honour of performing at several noteable events – as Child Guest Artist in 'Opera in the Park', Melbourne (2003), at Joan Sutherland's 83rd Birthday Concert (2009) and at Sir Richard Bonynge's 80th Birthday Concert at Angel Place Recital Hall, Sydney (2010). Phoebe performed as cantor (soloist) for the Opening Mass of World Youth Day 2008, which was televised to millions worldwide. In 2012, she was soprano soloist for the UNSW Collegium Choir for Haydn’s Nelson Mass and Mozart’s Dominican Vespers at the Sir John Clancy Auditorium. Recently, Phoebe recorded the world premiere of 'Parlour Songs from Udolpho' as part of a PhD which is to be used for historical reference and educational archives in Australian and British Universities.
Phoebe has received prizes in over 240 vocal competitions, including in 2012 Winner of the Wollongong Eisteddfod Operatic Aria, Finalist in the Cowra Eisteddfod Operatic Aria and Winner of the Northern Beaches Eisteddfod Aria. In 2011, Phoebe was selected as one of eight finalists for the Australian National Aria Competition; in which she received fourth place and an the audience prize. In 2011 she was winner of the Operatic Aria and Vocal Champion, Ryde Eisteddfod; Open English Opera and Art Song & French and German Song, City of Sydney Eisteddfod; Open Vocal Champion 2010 & 2011, Northern Beaches Eisteddfod; Junior Aria and Vocal Champion, Wollongong Eisteddfod and 4th in the Australian National Operatic Aria. In 2010, she was winner of the Open Vocal Champion Goulburn, Ryde and Wollongong Eisteddfods; and Open Lieder Champion, Ryde Eisteddfod. In 2009, winner of the highly prestigious Dame Joan Sutherland and Richard Bonynge Vocal Scholarship, personally selected as the winner by Sir Richard Bonynge. Phoebe’s scholarship achievements include Ian Potter Cultural Trust Award 2012; Farleigh Scholarship and Musical Theatre Scholarship Fund 2011 & ARS Musica Australis Scholarship 2007-2009 and 2012; and Joan Sutherland Grant for 2010. Phoebe is also supported by the Tait Cultural Arts Fund London.
